When to Add Sprinkles and Decorations to Cake Pops
Share
The best time to add most sprinkles and lightweight decorations is immediately after dipping, while the coating is still wet enough to hold them.
Prepare Decorations Before You Dip
Have sprinkles, sanding sugar, or other decorations ready before the cake pop goes into the coating. The surface can begin setting quickly.
Add Sprinkles While the Coating Is Wet
Apply sprinkles as soon as excess coating has dripped away. Waiting too long can cause them to bounce off instead of sticking.
Work in Small Batches
Dip and decorate a few cake pops at a time rather than dipping an entire batch before adding decorations.
Be Careful With Heavy Decorations
Larger decorations can slide on very wet coating. Allow the coating to begin thickening slightly when necessary, then attach the decoration before the surface becomes fully set.
For Detailed Designs
Once the base coating is completely set, additional melted coating can be used to attach details or create drizzles and accents.
